Kuluttaja – Cover 1/2013

On this cover I experimented a bit with combining watercolour and digital painting. I like the look quite a bit but it was a huge time consumer. Pure digital is much, much quicker as is pure watercolour.

The subject was VOD (Video On Demand) services like HBO and Netflix. "VOD storms the living room" was the headline.

Tekstitaituri text book series for ages 12 – 15

Sanoma Pro – Tekstitaituri school book series interior illustration

A couple of illustrations from the biggest project I have ever been involved in – a Finnish language textbook series for children ages 12 – 15. The series consists of 12 books so far including the textbook, excercise book, teacher's book and Finnish as a second language excercise book for each class level. According to my calculations I have produced somewhere around 500 illustrations for the series.

Thankfully, it has been well received and sales are good.

I also produced covers for all three textbooks which were finished but in the end, passed over for a more graphical cover design. I like how they turned out but the publisher had very valid arguments for the choice they made. I'm still glad I got to take the characters into these situations.

Personal – Welcome Home! -iPad painting
My first full-scale iPad painting. I used an app called Sketch Club which is a very agile little thing with a pretty powerful brush engine.

I recorded the process as a timelapse and split it into three parts because of technical limitations. Here they are:

Akava – Vanheneeko osaamisesi? -brochure
I designed and illustrated a brochure about lifelong learning for Akava and in the process developed a new illustration style, which I am going to explore further. It is my first completely digital technique.
